Swedish grinding Death Metal quintet Coldworker is due to release their third album entitled The Doomsayer’s Call shortly. The album contains 13 tracks and it has been mixed by mighty Dan Swanö.
Their music is more or less a blend of few different genres; death metal, grind-core, hardcore and punk. Thus, the sound is extreme with really angry vocals, grindcore blast beats, and socially aware lyrics. However, it is not all about brutality and extremity, as I was quite impressed by the lead guitar work and tremendous emotive soli that were incorporated to the mix.
It feels natural to compare them to the likes of Nasum and Napalm Death, but it won’t be completely fair, as Coldworker has been working hard in order to create their own sound and image. One can even say that they’ve taken the whole grindcore thing a step further away from the above mentioned giants of the scene. With each new offering from the Coldworker one notes the growth and routine that this extreme act has achieved.
The Doomsayer’s Call continues this exact same line put forward on its two predecessors, yet by adding this extra new dimension to their sound. Coldworker managed once again to secure the diversity and variation to their music, yet with the grinding spirit still being very much present.
13 tracks presented on The Doomsayer’s Call are not as easily digested as one might think, and I urge you to listen to it more than once, as it has this obvious quality of growing onto you with each new listening. I truly appreciate Coldworker’s latest work and I hope you’ll do the same.
